Winchester, by far, is the most famous name in firearms. The model 1873 is commonly known as The Gun that Won the West. Owning any firearm, however, is owning a piece history. Check to be sure that your gun has a serial number between 1 and 57,493. Gun has a large (>8') grooved handle for the pump forearm and a bullet-shaped loading port You have a post-war Model 61 Winchester. Check to be sure the serial number is after 98,200. The Winchester Model 61 was in essence the fourth version of a line of pump action rifles that Winchester produced in the rimfire.22 caliber, beginning with the 1890, 1906, which was discontinued in 1932.
